It’s on the best day of the year. Coined by President-to-be Leslie Knope, of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day is a celebration of love in its truest of forms — friendship and sisterhood. Although not (yet!) recognized as a national holiday, Galentine’s Day falls on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s each year and is the opportunity treat yo’ self and the people you love.
Because of Valentine’s focus on the fleeting romantic relationships, more often than not it can be greeted with distaste rather than pleasure. Galentine’s is a day unique to you and your inner circle, so to help you find the absolute perfect outing we created a little quiz. The first step to your new favorite holiday tradition.

Mostly A’s — Adventurous
You and your pals absolutely love to explore, the idea of being locked inside a stuffy mall or restaurant all day instead of enjoying the fresh February weather makes your skin crawl. Thankfully, in Santa Cruz picturesque landscapes are easy to find.
At Big Basin Redwoods State Park, on Feb. 12 starting at 11:30 a.m., the park is hosting its annual “Romance in the Redwoods” tour. But don’t worry the event isn’t just for couples, it is actually a scenic and fascinating exploration of the different mating and courtship habits of the creatures in Santa Cruz county.
Mostly B’s — Foodie
B is for Brunch! Cliche for a reason, brunch is a quintessential part of celebrating with your ladies, especially if you are hunting down those insta-likes.
Featured on Groupon right now, the Beach Street Cafe is offering a brunch special for 35 percent off your next brunch there. You will have to buy them individually, but since you will be out with your friends it shouldn’t be too awkward.
Mostly C’s — Authentic
You are a genuine person and a genuine friend, so the more commercial and manufactured parts of Valentine’s Day just aren’t your cup of tea — so feel free to leave them out of Galentine’s entirely. Grab your friends and catch up over a cup of coffee, or take a new class together.
On Feb. 14, DiviniTree Santa Cruz in Midtown is hosting a special Valentine’s Day class from 8:15-9:30 p.m. dedicated to self-love and restoration. There will even be live music and a tea ceremony following — aka a chance to meet future Galentine’s Day friends too.
Mostly D’s — Silly
You are a goofball who always knows how to make your friends laugh. For you, Galentine’s Day sounds like the perfect excuse to hang out with your friends and have a ton of fun. So, this year, make a trend of trying something new.
Why not try this year’s Contra Cruz 6-hour dance? The contra is a line folk dance for all ages. Hosted at the Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building on Feb. 12 from 2-9 p.m., this event will be a toe-tapping good time.
